Because we are a couple that listens to music in a very HERE WE ARE LISTENING TO MUSIC AND HAVING OPINIONS ABOUT IT! sort of way, it should not come as a surprise that we have created/nurtured/brainwashed a pair of children who are also very I AM LISTENING TO MUSIC AND HAVING OPINIONS ABOUT IT!
As Eliza’s gotten older and her scope of influences has expanded, her tastes have become more her own, and not only in music. I asked her to give me her top-of-the-year lists.
Herewith, her opinions.
Down Under by Men at Work (“I just got it stuck in my head”)
Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke (“I kinda like it cause it has all the background stuff”)
Harlem Shake Theme (“it’s just fun”)
Favorite TV shows
Fetch with Ruff Ruffman
America’s Funniest Home Videos
Despicable Me 2
Favorite Live Arts Performance
Fab Faux (a Beatles cover band Jim took her to see)
Spirit Animals: Wild Born
Fantastic Mr. Fox
She was also at pains to remind me that her favorite comic is Rhymes With Orange.
Then I asked her a few other questions about the year.
What are you proud of:
Trying a new ride at Six Flags. It wasn’t like new new but it was really fun. I was kind of nervous about going on it because I heard it always breaks down. Pandemonium.
What are you going to try next year?:
Maybe one of the upside-down roller coasters.
What was your favorite thing you did this year?:
Go to (her nature camp). (It’s really an awesome camp made better by the fact that two of her favorite people also go every year, and they come home grimy and exhausted and bug-bitten and sweaty and happy.)
Then I tried to get some answers out of Lucy:
Wake me up (which she calls PICK ME UP!)
Her favorite TV show:
Jake and the Pirates
Singing Bee, which we eventually figured out means Despicable Me
Mulan = “We watched that and we have some CANDY!” (IE I’m not sure if she liked the movie or the candy.)
The Monster at the End of this Book
